HAUGHTON HOUSE
22ND - 30TH OCTOBER 2004.

Haughton House is where we stayed for the nine days. Check out the street plan of Alford ("Afford" to the locals). We wondered if "The Lang Stracht" was significant, as it leads to a cemetery at one end of the village. The plan looks more like a runway layout. There is a tradition of 'corpse roads' being straight alignments used to carry coffins to the graveyard, and Paul Devereux has done some work on connecting these with leys. This looks like it might be a good example of such a 'spirit path' alignment being used.

Haughton House

Our flats were on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The views were spectacular from most of the rooms. Ros, Maria, Barry and Grahame had the top flat where we did all the cooking and eating. It was the biggest flat so it made most sense. Maryrose and Jon and Oliver were down in the flat down stairs. Watching the sun rise between a notch in the hillside from the kitchen window every morning was an added bonus!!

This is the walk down to the Stone Circle at Haughton House........ From the main house, you wind your way down through the empty caravan site to a gate. It's a different world on the other side!

This view is looking up stream. The path follows the river down to the bridge at Druidsfield. We all bimbled down there on Saturday afternoon on the first day. Click here to see the Druidsfield site.

This view is looking down stream flowing towards Aberdeen. The River Don was in full flow. It was deep, wide and very cold.. It had a silent thunder feel. Steady, Fast but silent..

Then after a short walk you might be lucky and find the stone circle first time.
We didn't, mind you it was pitch dark for us, and you gnow what a labyrinthine path one has to walk to get to the real thing.

There was much debate first time we visited the circle in the day time.
